The use of PreMed in dentistry has discontinued greatly. Unfortunately, it’s common for patients to not have an updated protocol from their surgeons.
In our office we follow the guidelines as issues by ADA and the AAOS. Our doctors are trained in when premed is necessary. In most cases FOR JOINT REPLACEMENT, premed is not needed in healthy indivudals after 1 year post op. For heart valve replacement we follow the recommendation of the patients surgeon which usually requires premed for life.
