Pregnant Patients

When we are scheduling pregnant patients we need to follow these guidelines:

  • Ideally any treatment would be done in the 2nd trimester. Often times emergencies do not allow for this.

  • Current guidelines state that there should be no changes in what xrays are taken due to pregnancy. As the benefit outweighs the very small risk. With that said, we will honor an expecting mother’s wishes if they are not comfortable taking xrays. Certain circumstances will require them, and the provider will discuss those with the patient if that is the case.

  • During pregnancy we want to try to avoid Articane, if possible, and limit the amount of epinephrine that we give. Typically we would give Carbocane without epinephrine.

  • All in all when treatment is needed it is far safer for mom and baby to have that treatment completed, as opposed to allowing it to become a bigger deal over time.
